Alaska Veterans Museum
Our Mission
- Create a museum for the inspiration, remembrance and preservation of the memory of veterans and of their sacrifices for America's freedom.
- Educate the general public through the collection, presentation, and exhibition of artifacts, personal accounts and historical acts relating to the history of our veterans.
- Promote activities that will enhance or support the purpose of the Museum.
- Support our veterans, active duty, Guard and Reserve members.
Our Story
The Alaska Veterans Museum is focused on honoring our nation's veterans and insuring that because of the sacrifices they made to defend America's freedom, "They Shall Not Be Forgotten." As President Calvin Coolidge said, "A nation which forgets its defenders, will itself be forgotten."
Although home to the largest veteran population per capita of any state in the Union, Alaska is the only state (as of January 1, 2011) not to have a veterans museum. Our active group has been working for years to change that. We have collected more than 110 oral histories and hundreds of artifacts from veterans dating from WWII to the present. Because we have had no permanent residence, we have been displaying these and educating the public as a "portable museum" in places such as the Anchorage Museum and the Alaska Aviation Museum.
We operate on grant money and donations from generous people, families, businesses and corporations. We need your help. Please consider a donation via "Pick, Click, Give" from your Permanent Fund Dividend, or donating though our Donations Page.
Thank you to our generous donors
