Sleep next to the sharks this Friday, November 16, during an Aquarium Overnight, a special family-friendly sleepover. From 7 p.m., learn about aquarium animals, play games, make crafts and more. Pre-registration is required and space is limited, so call (505)-848-7180 and reserve your space today.

Overnighters learn interesting facts about ocean species and their nighttime behavior. You'll have access to the Invertebrate Touchpool and Shark & Ray Encounter to see some aquatic creatures up close. Later, try your hand at our aquarium-themed crafts and game show . Then, sit back and watch an ocean film fest in the Theater before drifting to sleep next to the 285,000 gallon Shark Tank.

"Our Aquarium Overnights are always loads of fun," said Kathryn Venzor, BioPark Education Manager. "You can learn about ocean life and play games all night long. Plus, it feels like you have the Aquarium to yourself with unprecedented access to exhibits aThe 16th Annual River of Lights has been yarn bombed! Colorful new yarn decorations are brightening up the Botanic Garden this holiday season. The New Mexico BioPark Society invited knitters to the BioPark's first "Yarn Bombing," a type of street art, often done in secret by guerilla knitters to decorate public spaces. During the BioPark's sanctioned yarn bombings, knitters and installation volunteers wound, wrapped, crocheted and knit miles of yarn into fun displays.

The Children's Fantasy Garden has been decorated thanks to the help of a large community of fiber artists and local yarn stores including Village Wools, Yarn Store at Nob Hill, Fiber Chicks, and the Sweater Girls. Warm colors wrap around light posts and trees. Knitted scarves and crocheted hat bands bring snowmen to life. Rainbow blankets cover ant and carrot statues. One of the ant sculptures has even been bundled up with leg warmers.

"The Fantasy Garden is looking even more whimsical," said Judi Civerolo, Special Events Director for the New Mexico BioPark Society. "Volunteer knitters came out to help splash River of Lights with even more color, and now our sculptures have real personality and style."

If the yarn art leaves you feeling "crafty," stop by the Aquarium/Botanic Garden Education building to make beautiful gifts inspired by nature during the last night of Holiday Nature Crafts on December 12 from 6 - 8 p.m. Holiday Nature Crafts is a free event, and all craft materials are providednd volunteer experts."
