Allegheny Highlands Trail

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

The Allegheny Highlands Trail was designated the Trail of the Month in July, 2008 by the Rail to Trails Conservancy.

The Highlands Trail Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating recreational and alternate transportation opportunity through development of a regional trail system in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia. The Allegheny Highlands Trail from Elkins to Thomas is the backbone of that system.

HTF works to develop and promote the Allegheny Highlands Trail from Elkins to Thomas, WV

Constructed by the WV Division of Highways in conjunction with the Corridor H highway, the AHT follows the former Western Maryland Railway route for 25 miles from Elkins to Hendricks. The connector project will add nearly a mile to the trail.

On the Allegheny Highlands Trail, you won't need satellites to pinpoint the trail's winding views and wooded serenity-they are on abundant display for all visitors. So pack your trail gear, and maybe a GPS unit for some mental exercise, and head to northeastern West Virginia for a showcase of the state's mountain lifestyle and leisure.
