In 1994, the Oklahoma Legislature created the Native American Cultural and Educational Authority, (NACEA) a state agency authorized to construct and operate The American Indian Cultural Center and Museum (The Center) for the purpose of generating awareness and understanding of the history of tribes and their relationship to Oklahoma today.
NACEA Mission Statement
- To create an awareness and understanding for all people of the Oklahoma American Indian cultures and heritage.
NACEA Founding Statement
- The NACEA will collaborate with state, tribal, federal, city and, county governments; as well as educational and cultural organizations to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation among all people of the diverse American Indian cultures of Oklahoma..

- To serve as a living center for cultural expression promoting awareness and understanding for people regarding Oklahoma American Indian cultures and heritage.
