Our Story

Our company's tradition dates back to 1917 when Alfred Angeli, an Italian immigrant, bought some cattle with plans to raise and sell them for a profit. When the bottom dropped out of the live cattle market, this hard working and innovative young immigrant was determined not to lose everything he had invested. He slaughtered the cattle himself and sold the fresh meat to his friends and neighbors, who then began asking for other food items to buy. Unknowingly, Alfred started the long family tradition of serving his customers' needs, a tradition we're proud to continue today.

Throughout the years, Alfred Angeli and his family operated a number of businesses along with a retail food store. They operated a large-scale beef, poultry, and hog farm, complete with a state-of-the-art slaughterhouse in Iron County, Michigan, which then lead to a feed warehouse business and a frozen locker plant. For many years, the family also owned and operated an inn located in Iron River.

With stores in Iron River and Menominee, Michigan and Marinette, Wisconsin we employ more than 350 people.

Libero Angeli passed away in November 1986, and his brother Alfred "Bay" Angeli has since retired. The company is owned and operated today by Libero's son, Alfred Angeli. Although the company has changed and evolved over the years, its purpose remains much the same: "to fulfill our customers' wants with the best value in goods and services in a very helpful and friendly atmosphere."
