Ashtabula Township Park
The Ashtabula Township Park Commission is the stewards of two parks in Ashtabula Township.
The first and most popular is Lakeshore Park located just east of the northern terminus of State Rt. 11. It is a beautiful well maintained and manicured 54 acre park on the shores of Lake Erie. It is an ideal spot for families to enjoy the outdoors and it brings many visitors to the area.
Lakeshore Park offers visitors many activities and amenities. A fenced in playground is available for children to enjoy a safe area under the watchful eye of parents and guardians. Horseshoe pits and volleyball courts are available as are bocce courts where local teams practice and play. A classic car show is held every Sunday through the summer and is one of the most popular in Northeast Ohio bringing dozens of great classic cars to the shores of Lake Erie each week. An 18 hole disc golf course can be used year round and is considered one of the most challenging that can be found. A large beach is also right on the shores of Lake Erie with lifeguards through the summer. Five pavilions are available with fabulous views for every type of family outing. A waterfowl pond offers visitors a chance to view beautiful white mute swans and a variety of mallard and other ducks. A pair of peacocks can also be seen.
A public boat launch is available for the anglers and pleasure boaters and jet skiers. It has access right on the shore of Lake Erie. A bait shop is also there to handle all your fishing needs
Events at Lakeshore Park include the annual Easter Egg Hunt where hundreds of local children are able to scramble for candy filled eggs. The annual Rib Burn Off is held the 3rd weekend of September each year where you can enjoy some of the best ribs in the country along with free live entertainment. Thousands attend the 3 day event each year and there is no admission fee.
The second is Indian Trails Park which offers nature lovers 405 acres, 4 miles of primitive hiking trail along the scenic Ashtabula River and 3,000' of improved trail where rare plant species and a vast amount of wildlife can be found. Many spots are found for great steelhead fishing. At the southern terminus of Indian Trails the Smolen Gulf Bridge can be found crossing the park and river. It is the longest covered bridge in the United States.
