Athens Farmers Market is an organization of local farmers, craftspeople and volunteers working to make local naturally grown food, crafts and works of art available for the good of all. Celebrate treasures that are uniquely Athens. Our food grown in our soil by our farmers. Our crafts made in our homes by our artists. The Athens Farmers Market, LLC, a not-for-profit corporation, is a farmers' market operated in accordance with state, county and local laws, for the benefit of farmers and consumers alike.

The two fundamental purposes of the Athens Farmers Market are:

To foster improved business conditions for local farmers, gardeners, food processors, artists and craftspeople.

To provide the community with a place to buy fresh produce, crafts, objects of art and food direct from producers in a congenial atmosphere.

BELIEFS AND VALUES

We believe that sustainable agriculture is increasingly essential to providing healthy, affordable food to the community. Sustainable methods reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, provide foods free from harmful chemicals, produce foods high in nutritional value, and results in economic activity focused on the local economy.

Further objectives of the AFM mission include education about and support of local sustainable agriculture. Sustainable agriculture is a commitment to both growing and distributing food to meet the needs of current and future generations in a manner that is environmentally sound, economically viable, and socially just.

AFM believes that it is important to make economic and educational connections between urban dwellers, sustainable farmers, local artisans, crafts persons and local purveyors of food prepared substantially from locally grown products using sustainable farming methods.

AFM management and its designated agents will implement and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the operation of AFM market in a fair and equitable manner.

ATHENS FARMERS MARKET, ATHENS MUSIC

Athens is a culturally rich town. Music and the people who make it are the basic ingredient, and the market is privileged to serve as a venue to some of our town's most talented musicians. They play without compensation from the market, except for the tips of righetous food that our farmers and purveyors of prepared food send their way.

Of course, our patrons also buy their CDs, and give them some green.

Stop, dance, smile, clap and say thank you. Where else can you get live music from talented artists on Saturday morning? And don't forget about Wednesday afternoons at City Hall.
