Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan is a community resource that serves to inspire curiosity, foster community pride, and cultivate personal legacy.

The Besser Museum of Northeast Michigan is an educational institution dedicated to serving the public of all ages and abilities in art, history and science of Northeast Michigan.

The Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan is a regional, nonprofit 501(c)3 public charitable organization envisioned by Jesse Besser to be a 'living museum' that would serve and engage all people of Northeast Michigan in "art at work, science for the space age, and history for our days."

Art

Besser Museum's fine art collection includes watercolor, oil, pastel, acrylic and collage paintings, prints, art pottery, and sculputure. The Museum's extensive collection of art that cannot be found any where else in Northeast Michigan, includes works of art from Michigan artists such as Tom Moran to world renowned artists like Cezanne, Renoir, Dali, Picasso, Warhol, Rivera, Chihuly, Clewell and more!

History

The historical artifact collection includes material culture items that portray life and industries in Norhteast Michigan.

Come stroll through the Museum's replica of an 1890s Avenue of Shops. Explore the lumbering and farming history of Northeast Michigan. Visit the Peoples of Lakes and Forest Gallery, which houses a variety of Prehistoric and Native American artifacts unique to this region. Take time to explore the historic buildings on the Museum's property. Dig for Devonian fossils in the Lafarge Fossil Park and keep the fossil you find.

Science

Besser Museum's science collection includes specimens from geology, paleontology, zoology, botany, anthropology, and physical science technology.

See the Foucault Pendulum which gives visual proof that the Earth is rotating while demonstrating Newton's Law of Motion. Dig for Devonian fossils in the Lafarge Fossil Park and keep the fossils you find. Visit the Natural Wildlife and Fresh Water Fish exhibits containing a variety of artistically mounted specimens native to the region. View constellations in the only planetarium in Northeast Michigan.
