Binder Park Zoo
Binder Park Zoo...One of America's Best Zoos Right in Your Own Backyard!
Binder Park Zoo is located outside of Battle Creek, Michigan, on 433 acres of natural forests and wetlands. In the past 33 years, we have grown to be one of the leading cultural attractions in the region. Binder Park Zoo was created on the model of an entrepreneurial self-supporting nonprofit organization, and is managed by a zoological society board of directors.
Mission
Binder Park Zoo's mission is to nurture empathy, understanding, and conservation of nature.
Education
Yearly, over 30,000 children and adults received the benefit of the Zoo's formal and informal education programs as well as numerous special initiatives.
Conservation
The Zoo is an active participant in sixteen AZA Species Survival Programs and manages several other rare and endangered species for conservation.
Attendance
Attracted 250,000 children and adults in 2008 with total attendance since opening in 1977 of well over six and a half million people.
Volunteers
Hundreds of adults and youth donated over 20,000 hours in 2008.
Animals
Approximately 600 specimens of over 140 species including one of the largest giraffe herds in the country.
Exhibits
32 rare and exotic animal exhibits plus 19 domestic animal exhibits.
Impact
Affects the cultural, educational, and financial prosperity of the region by significantly upgrading the quality of life. Provides 104 full-time equivalent positions.Voted one of the best day trips and one of the top family attractions in Michigan by the 1.7 million members of AAA.
