Originally a Carnegie Library, we became a district library serving three townships comprising Mt. Vernon, Illinois in 1989. In 1999, the library celebrated 100 years of history and service to the community. The district expanded in 2003 to cover 15 townships in Jefferson County. The library staff makes over 71,000+ items available to you. A special genealogy collection is included.
The library is governed by an elected board and is open 64 hours per week.
