History of Calhoun-Gordon County Library
The library in Calhoun and Gordon County has a long history. It was established in 1911 by the Woman's Club. In 1957, this library joined the Northwest Georgia Regional Library System. The library employs four full-time, and five part-time staff, including student interns, along with several volunteers. It is open seven days a week in order to better serve its patrons.
The library has strong ties with both the City and County schools, and area private schools. It has a strong, viable partnership with the Friends Organization. The Friends of the Calhoun-Gordon County Library is comprised of members who share the belief that a strong, public library is a valuable intellectual, cultural, educational and recreational resource in the community.
The library is governed by a five-member board of trustees with members appointed by two funding agencies: the City of Calhoun and the Gordon County Commission. Funding for operations is provided by both the City and County at 35% and 65%, respectively. Our mission is to provide quality, responsive and innovative information services which foster the individual pursuit of knowledge and enhance the cultural, economic and intellectual vitality of the community.
