Calvary Baptist Church

The history of Calvary Baptist Church actually began with the merger on July 16, 1953 of two small churches in the Meadville area. Its founders had experienced the rise of theological liberalism and modernism. Almost every Protestant denomination in America had been captured or greatly influenced by theological liberalism. Eventually, denominations splintered as those holding onto orthodox beliefs were forced out or simply left. Conservative Baptists and Regular Baptists pulled out of the Northern Baptists during these tumultuous days. Calvary Baptist has its roots in the Regular Baptist movement.

The Calvary Baptist Church was a member of the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches (G.A.R.B.C.) for many years (1955-1991). The Calvary Baptist Church maintains that every believer must agree with these fundamental doctrines:

The eternal deity of Jesus Christ

The virgin birth of Christ

The sinless life of Jesus Christ

The substitutionary atoning death of Jesus Christ

The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ

The verbal inspiration and authority of the Bible as the Word of God

CBC stayed in the G.A.R.B.C. until 1991. The church continues to be an "autonomous, separatist Baptist church" - meaning it is not part of a denomination and therefore governs itself through a congregational style of government with Godly pastoral leadership and true serving deacons. The church associates with several regional groups -The Pennsylvania Association of Regular Baptist Churches and the Association of Independent Churches of Western Pennsylvania.
