ABOUT THE MUSEUM
A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
As the summer comes to an end, and I reflect back at our first summer as a fully operational museum, I wanted to give a update on the museum, the new jewel in downtown Green Bay. First to say, the sound of children and families in the museum is a refreshing change to the drills, saws and hammers of the previous year.
The past ten weeks have brought over 19,707 visitors and 697 members through the museum doors. Additionally, free admissions have been given to 185 Children of Promise, those from low or "at risk" family circumstances. All these numbers have exceeded expectations. With the museum reaching capacity on a regular basis, we are being given a small window into what we can expect during the winter months.
With the addition of Program Manager, Gina Anderson, museum programming is fully underway. As an educator with over 10 years experience, she engages visitors and excites them with her Wee One Hour, Pint-Sized Picassos, Recycled Art Studio, Kidz Kreation, "Sense"-ational Art and Science Saturday. The United Healthcare Healthy Living program is kicking off just in time for back-to-school with School Safety Week.
On the exhibit front, I am often asked which one is the favorite, and there is no clear winner. Many guests stay up to 3 hours ensuring they take in all the museum has to offer.
Finally, as I take it all in, I feel a sense of pride on the museum's long-awaited success and completion. I'm humbled and honored to see that the newest addition to downtown demonstrates Green Bay's commitment to children, play and learning-in the city's very heart.
