Defined Fitness was started in 1986 in Albuquerque as a workout facility for the parents and employees of an adjacent preschool. As physical fitness grew in popularity, Defined Fitness opened its doors to the general public. In June of 1988, Defined Fitness moved to a larger location to expand operations. In 1988, the original owner sold the company to Burt and Trish Fowler who are still two of the principal shareholders today.

With energy and enthusiasm, Defined Fitness began to grow. With the core principles of superior customer service, unmatched value, and an industry innovation of month-to-month memberships, Defined Fitness quickly became and continues to be the industry leader in the Albuquerque metro area growing from one location consisting of approximately 13,000 square feet to five locations with over 179,000 square feet of workout space. Each club is a full-service center offering state-of-the-art strength training, cardiovascular equipment, a wide variety of group exercise classes, cutting edge athletic programming and an aquatic complex featuring an indoor pool, hot tub, dry sauna and steam room. In addition to extensive group exercise programs in yoga, Pilates, water aerobics, and cycling, Defined Fitness offers individual and group personal training.

In 2008, the Company significantly expanded the Juan Tabo facility. In addition to almost doubling the size, several new special programming was added to appeal to an even wider range of membership, including youth. These new programs include: XRKade, the Parisi Speed School, Kinesis Circuit Training, and Easy Line.

Defined Fitness, Inc. employs approximately 400 employees throughout its five health clubs and corporate office and continues to grow, recently breaking ground on a new Albuquerque facility located at Central and Unser. With its commitment to maintaining stellar customer service and always providing its members with cutting edge programming and state of the art equipment, Defined Fitness will continue to be a leader in the industry for many years to come.
