Delta Heritage Trail State Park is a rails-to-trails conversion being developed in phases along the 73-mile former Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way from Lexa to Cypress Bend in southeast Arkansas. The first 14 miles of trail are open. When completed, the trail will offer sweeping views from bridges that span the Arkansas River and White River.

This rails-to-trails conversion in southeast Arkansas is being developed in phases along the former Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way that stretches from one mile south of Lexa (six miles west of Helena) to Rohwer, and extending via the Mississippi River levee to Arkansas City. The first 14 miles of trail have been completed from Helena junction to the Lakeview community and just across from Old Town Lake. Approximately seven miles of trail are under construction from Lakeview to Elaine. Trailheads are located at Helena junction near Barton, Walnut Corner at the U.S. 49 overpass, Lick Creek (Ark. 85 just south of Barton), and in Lakeview.

The trail stretches through a shaded canopy of native hardwoods, alongside agricultural fields, and across streams. Wildlife viewing and birdwatching opportunities abound along the route.

The park visitor center is located on Ark. 49 in Barton. Here you will find trail maps, a gift shop, restrooms, and picnic sites. Bicycles can be rented at the visitor center. Five Class D (no hookups) and Tent Sites are located at this trailhead.

Once completed, the Delta Heritage Trail will also offer sweeping views from bridges that span the Arkansas River and the White River.

The Delta Heritage Trail is a rail-to-trail conversion that was acquired by Arkansas State Parks in 1993. Fourteen miles near Helena have been completed and are open to hikers and bicyclists looking for an experience in some of the most remote and scenic areas remaining in eastern Arkansas's Mississippi Delta.
