The Canton Arts District
The Canton Arts District in Downtown Canton, Ohio has exploded on the scene over the last five years. Through the amazing efforts of 50 artists, and the partnership of the Special Improvement District and ArtsinStark, the Canton Arts District is an evolving collaboration of commerce, camaraderie, and creativity.
The Arts District now boasts five art galleries (with regular hours) and twenty-two artist studios (open when artists are working, or for special events). We have 40 new pieces of public art, fabulous restaurants, bars, little shops -- and a monthly First Friday celebration that attracts thousands. The Canton Palace Theatre is in the Arts District ... and just a few blocks north is the magnificent Cultural Center for the Arts. Come check us out. Our galleries, our artists, our dining, and our spirit bring out the best in all who visit!
Downtown Living
Through a collaborative effort of both the public and private sector downtown Canton has begun a journey toward renewal, redevelopment and revitalization.
With the completion of the master plan and Winter & Co. implementation strategy business and community leaders are committed to returning downtown Canton to the thriving city of yesteryear.
Local, unique eateries and specialty shops already exist providing the anchor for more of the types of businesses that make a neighborhood a dynamic place to live. Restaurants, night clubs, coffee houses, shoe stores and a men's clothing store join the existing establishments including jewelry stores, gift shops, news stands, flower shop, banks, churches-and so much more.
Currently, more than 1,100 people call downtown Canton home. Downtown Canton has a total of 47 market rate housing units planned or under construction. Adaptive reuse of historic buildings is expected to provide the dramatic and unique urban living spaces that appeal to young professionals looking for housing within walking distance of work and empty nesters seeking affordable living close to the services they need.
