Downtown Danville

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

Our vision of a vibrant downtown includes economically viable and unique businesses, attractions, restaurants and residential areas that serve to attract local citizens to visit the Downtown and to entice future residents to relocate into the area. We further believe that the community will fail to thrive if the core is allowed to erode into in a condition of blight and decay.

Based on these beliefs, the DDA Board dedicates itself to the principles of the Virginia Main Street Program which have been successful in the restoration of numerous downtown business areas.

• Organization of available people and assets,

• Economic restructuring to employ, renew and revitalize,

• Design efforts to highlight the old and merge with the new,

• Promotion to attract investment, visitation and commerce.

About DDA

The Downtown Danville Association (DDA) was formed in 1999 to coordinate efforts to revitalize Downtown Danville. The organization is comprised of an all volunteer Board of Directors including representatives form Downtown merchants, the City of Danville, Downtown property owners, banks, City Schools, Danville Science Center and the Danville Historical Society.

While Danville was designated as a "Virginia Main Street Community" in 2000, due to some organizational structure changes in 2007, we now enjoy "Affiliate" status with the Main Street Program. The program is over 20 years old and is recognized as the most successful formula for downtown revitalization. Our commitment to the Main Street approach to revitalization remains strong.

What We Do

The DDA follows the Main Street model to coordinate the public/private partnership required to restore and revitalize Downtown. We focus on economic development, physical design, organization and promotional events. We are assembling information on all aspects of downtown redevelopment, from assisting individual building owners to working with the City to make sure that its programs benefit the widest number of downtown property owners.

In addition to following the 4 Point Main Street approach of economic development, design, organization and promotion, DDA is also the proud home of the Historic Murals of Danville Committee. Two of a planned series of ten murals have already been completed, and plans are underway for the third. The murals will provide easy access to public art, they will stimulate economic development in the historic districts by attracting tourism, and they will provide a panoramic history of our area, instilling a sense of pride in our community.
