Downtown Farmers Market
In recent years, farmers markets have been undergoing a renaissance of sorts. Listed below are some of the reasons for this as well as some of the goals of the Downtown Farmers Market:
Farmers Markets provide a connection to farm and country life
Farmers Markets provide an opportunity for the customer to talk directly with the farmer who produced the food
Farmers Markets support small family farms whose continued existence depends on selling directly to the consumer
Farmers Markets provide community access to fresh from the farm produce
Farmers Markets provide an open-air market where people meet to visit with friends and neighbors
Local farmers have been bringing vegetables, fruits, eggs and other farm produce into the city of Eau Claire for more than one-hundred years. Sometimes the farmers had a regular route and went door to door on a Saturday selling homemade butter and eggs. Later, farmers brought their produce to Haymarket Square in Downtown Eau Claire where they sold livestock, poultry, fruits and vegetables to the townspeople.
The Downtown Farmers Market has now grown to a membership of seventy (70) vendors. The market membership aspires to offer an increasingly wide variety of vegetables, fruits, flowers, breads, etc., and to offer products of highest quality and freshness. The Downtown Farmers Market operates in a covered pavilion in Phoenix Park located on the corner of Riverfront Terrace and Madison Street.
