HISTORIC DOWNTOWN GOLDSBORO-WALKING TOUR. The DGDC office has copies of the Downtown Historic Walking Tour Brochure and Around Downtown Newsletters and Special Releases.

Historic neighborhoods are reclaimed by young single-families enjoying the proximity to an active downtown where shopping, governmental and service businesses are readily available. Second story conversions have quadrupled providing residential apartment units. The increase in residential use has created the need for a neighborhood grocery, movie theater, hardware store, more specialty stores and dining opportunities.

Large masses of people arrive from Hwy 117 to walk through historic Robinson Park to enter the newly completed convention center for a regional conference. As they leave or break, they take extra time to explore our many specialty shops or conduct business with our governmental center and support services and possibly make reservations at our downtown inn.

Vacationers arrive via passenger rail at our newly restored Union Station. They check in at one of our many B&B's and ask for recommendations on our social and entertainment opportunities. These visitors later walk along brick sidewalk, well illuminated by period lighting, and admire the plush landscaping as they set out for an evening of sidewalk dining, a cocktail at a nearby bar and a concert at the new amphitheater or Paramount Theater.

Busy citizens park their cars in the many inner block parking lots and attend to their business at the County Courthouse or the newly expanded and restored City Hall before they pick up a gift, run an errand and stop for lunch.
