IN DOWNTOWN WEIRTON
Without question, downtown Weirton is the heart of our community and a symbol of our city's pride. It is home to city and state government offices, many social or community service agencies, civic organizations and churches, as well as over 230 businesses, many of whom are DBA members.
Also located in downtown Weirton are the Mary H. Weir Public Library, Weirton Senior Citizens Center, St Paul Catholic School, senior living facilities (Overbrook Towers and Freedom Places I and II) and recreational facilities, such as the Weirton Thomas E. Millsop Community Center, Dunbar Recreation Center, Edwin J Bowman baseball field, and Jimmy Carey football stadium.
The DBA's goal is to provide leadership, advocacy, and opportunity for businesses and civic groups in the downtown area. Its concerns and interests include Main Street up to the County Road/Penn Ave. areas, as well as the Cove Road and Freedom Way areas. The DBA is a member of the National Main Street Center, International Downtown Association (IDA), and National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB).
The members of the DBA meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 12:00 noon at the Rose Room, Weirton Millsop Community Center. DBA meetings are open to the public and each meeting features a "Lunch & Learn" program, which consists of various speakers discussing a wide-range of informational topics affecting the downtown area or the City of Weirton. Also, each year the DBA hosts the "State of the County" addresses and co-host the "Legislative Luncheon" and "Regional Economic Outlook" luncheon.
