Opening Weekend at Fort Boonesborough State Park was a hands on learning experience for both participants and visitors. Women re-enactors and their families spent the weekend of April 20-21 at the fort learning pioneer skills. The event was organized by re-enactor and Fort Boonesborough Foundation member Kristi Heasley. This was Heasley's 2nd year of choosing the topics and speakers for the event which is now in it's 8th year.
Making acorn flour, learning about plants, herbs and natural dyes and working in the garden were some of the sessions. Begun as a learning experience for women, participants ranged from new re-enactors, visitors to the fort to veteran re-enactors wanting to hone their frontier skills.
