Geneva Golf Club is a public 27-hole championship golf course located in the scenic Alexandria Minnesota lakes area. Designed by Joel Goldstrand, the predominant considerations in planning Geneva Golf Club were to assure top caliber golf and to preserve the inherent natural beauty of the land.

The golf course consists of three nines; The Ponds, Island and Marsh courses. Each nine offers its own unique personality. With 5 sets of tees, the course combines a stern challenge for the most talented golfer with the playability desired by the novice.

A Joel Goldstrand Designed

Championship Course

Geneva Golf Club is a Joel Goldstrand designed 27-hole championship course. Joel is known as one of the Midwest's premier golf course architects. The course features a variety of water, natural hazards, bunkers and trees to accommodate players of all skill levels. Here's what he said about Geneva Golf Club upon its completion, "This course compares favorably with some of the best resort courses in Minnesota." We believe that once you play a round with us, you will agree.

History

Alexandria, Minnesota - Geneva Golf Club opened for business in the spring of 2000. The Thompson family moved to Alexandria, from Clarissa, Minnesota in 1998 where they had operated a family dairy and grain farm for 29 years. Gary, Barb and Randy Thompson have been the builders, owners and operators of Geneva Golf Club since the course's inception. This has truly been a family business from the beginning, as all of their sons and daughters have contributed to the management and operations of the golf course.

The property for the original 18-hole golf course and Lake Geneva Estates was purchased from the T.A-Erickson family. (Mr. Erickson is known as the founder of the 4-H organizations in Minnesota).

The initial phase of golf course and housing development consisted of 233 acres, 163 acres of golf course and 70 acres of housing on Lake Geneva and on the golf course. A well-known course architect, Joel Goldstrand, was hired to create a championship design. Our goal was to build a golf venue that would compare favorably with some of the best resort courses in the state.

In 2002 an opportunity to purchase the adjacent 142 acres became a reality and nine additional golf holes were created along with Geneva Estates North. These nine holes were integrated with the original 18-hole layout to give us 27 holes. Three nines named the Island, Ponds and Marsh, all start and end at the clubhouse.

Our latest venture is the purchase of Liberty Tree Farm. This acreage, now called Geneva Estates East, features beautiful building lots, many are wooded, and our new Geneva East Townhome development. The entire golf course and golf community now encompass 444 acres. For more information please contact Gary Thompson, General Manager/Owner 320-760-9520 (cell).
