Since before its opening in November 1997, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum set its goals to promote professional standards for museum volunteers, provide a forum for an exchange of ideas and information, and encourage volunteers to become familiar with the facility's projects on many levels. It's said that an effective volunteer program creates cheerful ambassadors who make their common ground a welcoming and friendly place for the museum's community.

Volunteers are an integral part of the rich mixture of museums in the United States and the Bush Museum's 175 volunteers are no exception. These skilled volunteers work in nine departments to assist with a variety of jobs. Those jobs include but are not limited to tours, exhibit projects, administrative support, and the catalog and accession of artifacts.

The mission of the Bush Museum is to tell the story of the life and times of its namesake. That mission centers on service to the public and service is the essence of volunteering at the Bush Museum.
