Greenfield Public Library

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

The GPL is currently housed in the Leavitt-Hovey House which was designed by Asher Benjamin, the writer of the first architectural pattern book published in America. Built in 1797 for Atty. Jonathan Leavitt, it was later owned by George Hovey, a local area merchant. In 1907 the Town of Greenfield purchased the building for the purpose of renovating it to become a public library.

The Greenfield Public Library serves as a public center for enrichment, entertainment, access to technology, self-directed learning and the exploration of ideas. The Library serves all members of the community, regardless of age, income, education, religious or political beliefs and makes no judgment on the nature of individual inquiry.

GPL serves the city of Greenfield and surrounding communities as a member of the C/W MARS network. Items can be requested from other libraries in the area, the state, or nation-wide.

The library is open 51 hours, 6 days a week to serve our patrons. We are happy to help you find something entertaining to read or watch or assist you with information searches. We have Internet computers that are available to the public every hour we are open and wifi that is available 24/7.

We offer 3 story times a week: Sunshine Story Time, Mondays at 11 for all ages; Preschool Story Time, Tuesday at 10; and Mother Goose on the Loose, Friday at 11 for toddlers and babies. In addition, our meeting room is open and available Monday through Friday from 12-2 for Writer's Lunch, a time for writers to work on their projects -- either on paper or electronically -- in a quiet environment.
