HiTone Cafe
The College Bar You Never Graduate From.
Newby's was established in 1975 in Memphis, TN. Home of the Blues and Birthplace of Rock-n-Roll. Too Tall Todd, an original bartender for David "Newby" Harsh bought the local bar in 1997. Known as the friendliest bar in town with the tastiest marinated chicken sandwich under the sun, Newby's offers some of the best original menu items you'll find anywhere in Memphis: Memphis smothered and covered tater tots, fried pickle chips, stone cooked pizzas and in the spring Live Crawfish cooked Hot ‘n Spicy to name a few...
Located on what used to be an old 50's strip with a theatre, diner, retail store and soda fountain/drug store, Newby's now has a pool hall, concert hall, bar, dining area and full sized patio. The bar/restaurant area offers live music, in a mid-sized venue attached to the bar, as well as small acoustic acts barside, in an intimate setting-and the open-air back patio is always available for private parties.
Home of the world famous "Rock Star" (a Long Island Tea jacked up with Energy Drink) and "EZ shooter" (Orange Flavored Vodka and an easy mix of fruit juices served chilled & up as a shooter) :/food Newby's has a fully stocked bar and extensive beer selection. From the front patio, you can watch the hustle and bustle of busy Highland Avenue while you sit back and enjoy a cold beverage. Newby's menu is varied and offers a bit of something for everyone. A house favorite is the Marinated Chicken Sandwich, it's said Newby's sold the first ever Chicken Sandwiches. The same one since 1975, way before Dave Thomas! Newby's game room has one of the best "on-line" jukeboxes around, 2 pool tables, and 2 fooseball tables.
The 500 capacity band venue, located next door to the bar has become a hot spot for nationally touring bands such as:
COWBOY MOUTH, ZAC BROWN, DRIVE BY TRUCKERS, P-FUNK ALL STARS, REHAB, SHAWN LANE, KWELLER WILLIAMS, GRETCHEN WILSON, BIG ‘N RICH, CROSS CANADIAN RAGWEED, CHARLIE ROBISON, ROBERT EARL KEEN, JACK INGRAM, SALIVA, TORA TORA, COWBOY TROY, BUCKETHEAD, JASON MRAZ, JOHN MEYER, KID ROCK, CREED, LOTUS, HOOBASTANK, TODD SNIDER, RECKLESS KELLY, SISTER HAZEL, UMPHREYS MCGEE, COREY SMITH, GALATIC, DEREK TRUCKS, RANDY ROGERS, BEN KWELLER, GREG LASWELL, JAY NASH, JERRY JOSEPH, MOFRO, DIRTY DOZEN BRASS BAND, RUFUS THOMAS, FREEWORLD, RL BURNSIDE, JUNIOR KIMBROUGH, NORTH MISSISSIPPI ALLSTARS, JUNIOR BROWN, KUDZU KINGS, STOCKHOLM SYNDRONE, QUIET RIOT, DRIVIN ‘n CRYIN, PAPA ROACH, DEL MCCOURY, AL KAPONE, PETE YORN, ERIC GALES, DIGITAL UNDERGROUND, OURS, PACKWAY HANDLE, HACKENSAW BOYS, CANDLEBOX, LORD T AND ELOSIE, PNUMA, DAUGHTRY, PAT MCGEE, JOSH KELLY, GREY BOY ALLSTARS, LUKE RYAN, BOOMBOX, DUMPSTAPHUNK, STONEY LARUE, BASS NECTAR, and VICTOR WOOTEN.
