Hocking Valley Scenic Railway
The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway was started in 1972 and continues to provide a family-friendly atmosphere through our regular seasonal weekend trains as well as our special event trains like the always-popular Easter Bunny and Santa Trains! We are a 501c3 non-profit organization operated by a dedicated group of volunteers, and our mission is to restore and operate historical railroad equipment for the general public.
As your take your train ride with us, you'll be treated to a ride like no other. Our equipment includes a collection of diesels from the 1950s and 1970s, while our coaches range from 1917 to the 1960s! We also have a steam locomotive currently undergoing restoration to full operation.
Along the route, you'll be able to take in the view of the historic Hocking River Valley between Nelsonville and Logan. These include the historic company town of Haydenville, remnants of the once-prosperous Hocking Canal, the remaining brick kilns of the Nelsonville Brick Company, and the Hocking River itself as it meanders through the valley.

About the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway
The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway is a non-profit railroad. Its mission is the preservation, restoration and operation of historic railroad equipment for the education and entertainment of the general public. All trains are run by volunteers who are members of the railway.
Founded in 1972, Hocking Valley Scenic Railway offers diesel-powered rides aboard vintage equipment. Take a leisurely ride back in time along the Hocking River and through the rolling hills of Southeastern Ohio. Choose between seating in our 1920s commuter coaches, open air cars (weather permitting), 1940 air-conditioned B&O coach or an air-conditioned bi-level car built in 1970. Our primary diesel locomotive, GP7 No. 5833, was built in October of 1952.
The route we operate over, between Nelsonville and Logan, was once a part of the original Hocking Valley Railway's Athens Branch. The railway merged into the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway in 1930. The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway was able to purchase the current route in 1985, as C&O sold off some of its less-used track.
