Kentucky Museum
The Kentucky Museum, on WKU's campus, houses history, arts & culture, with an outstanding quilt and textile collection, extensive archeological and ethnic holdings, also fine and decorative arts. Permanent exhibits include the life of local celebrity, Duncan Hines; a look at the Civil War from a local perspective; a decorative arts gallery ranging from an Egyptian sarcophagus to 1970s macramé; plus a gallery of regional quilts.
Changing galleries display a variety of themes, with community exhiibitions, university-class designed and installed exhibitions, and some annual events, like the USBank open art show. In addition, the 1815 Log House displays building techniques, furniture, tools and clothing authentic the 1810s time period. The tour would not be complete without a trip to the Kentucky Museum Store featuring a variety of items made in Kentucky or related to the museum's collection. Customers can also shop the Museum Store online. Award winning, hands-on programs for school classes and educational workshops for adults, lectures, and festivals round out the offerings at the Kentucky Museum.
Then explore some sweet history in the "Recommended by Duncan Hines" exhibit and follow the career of the Bowling Green native from traveling salesman to esteemed restaurant critic to cake-mix king. Other exhibits include The Snell-Franklin Decorative Arts Gallery featuring decorative arts from Egyptian - 1970s, the world-renowned collection in the Elizabeth Richardson Quilt Gallery, Roads, Rails and Rivers: Warren County Then and Now, and the Felts Log House.
