Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary

Ponds, vernal pools, open meadows, salt marsh, and other habitats make this 101-acre sanctuary a haven for many species of wildlife. Two and a half miles of trails wander through several Cape Cod habitats. Along the trails, you will find groves of tupelo, holly, and spruce trees. Surprisingly large oak trees along with red maple are interspersed throughout the property. The trails are easy to walk with gentle slopes along mowed grass paths ending with a spectacular view of Barnstable Harbor. Watch the sunny open meadows for many different species of butterflies, dragonflies, and red-tailed hawks.

Stop in at our Visitor Center to pick up our trail maps, and information on upcoming programs and events. View live animal exhibits, natural history displays, and information illustrating the work of the Coastal Waterbird Program, as well as hands-on "curiosity" learning aids for children of all ages.

Directions:

Cross the Sagamore Bridge onto Cape Cod. From Route 6, take exit 7 to Yarmouth Port. Go north one mile on Willow Street, and take a left onto Route 6A west. Proceed for approximately one mile, then take a right on Bone Hill Road (where you'll see a large sign for the Harbor Point Restaurant) and a smaller sign for Long Pasture. Follow Bone Hill Road past the upper trail head parking area to the end of Bone Hill Rd and look for a large white Sanctuary sign on your left. Take this driveway to the Visitor Center parking area. Parking is available in the field to your left, and around the circular drive in front of the Visitor Center.
