Margaret T. Hance Park
The Historical Winship House underwent renovations which were completed in May, 2013. History of the house pertains to Dr. Werter D. Shackelford and Sara T. Shackelford moved into the house in 1919. The rich textures of the wood shingle roof and the natural red brick combined with attractive gable details such as dentils and half-timbering, to create a singularly fine example of a house in the Arts and Crafts Movement. In 1923 Fred E. Winship, president of the Peoples Loan and Investment Company, later called Winship Loan Plan Company purchased the home.
Amenities at the park include drinking fountains, grills, reservable ramadas, a playground, restrooms, walking paths, and a lighted sand volleyball court. Hance Park hosts many cultural festivals and programs: Phoenix Old World Oktoberfest, Yoga Rocks the Park Series, El Dia De Los Niño's, St. Patrick's Day Parade and Irish Faire, Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday celebration, Dia De Los Muertos celebration, Blues Blast, Phoenix Festival of the Arts, Be A Leader - Steps to Career Success, Human Rights Campaign - Phoenix Cooks, and McDowell Mountain Music Festival.
