The purpose statement of the Marshall Symphony is:
"The purpose of Marshall Symphony Society, Inc. is to offer the community and East Texas area a cultural opportunity to experience an enriched life resplendent with excellence in music through quality performances, featuring talented artists and encouraging gifted youth."
The Marshall Symphony is possible because of the outstanding work of many individuals and organizations.
The Symphony Orchestra is comprised of professional and student musicians from all across the Ark-La-Tex area. In addition to the annual "Dixieland on the Square" event held at the downtown courthouse, the Orchestra presents three concerts each season. The MSO offers the East Texas area a cultural opportunity to experience an enriched life resplendent with excellence in music through quality performances, featuring talented artists and encouraging gifted youth.
The Symphony Society is the governing board responsible for the activities of the Orchestra. The Society secures musicians, sells tickets, solicits contributions, and provides all necessary administrative support for the MSO concerts. The Board welcomes individuals who desire to be a part of the Society and who wish to work on behalf of the
Orchestra.
The Symphony League is a separate and independent organization that is critical to the success and future of the Orchestra. The League, with its own Board of Directors, Officers, and Contributors supports the Orchestra and Society with financial gifts, representation on the Society Board of Directors, and public relations. Additionally, the League provides support for educational activities and cultural events in the Marshall Community. The League began the Junior Symphony League in 1975 which provides service opportunities for young women in the community who, in turn, may apply for college scholarships. In 2000, the League began the Honor Guard, which is the related organization available to young men in the Marshall area.
