Visit Old Town to find a delightful assortment of antiques and collectibles. Go Downtown to shop for apparel, home decor and gifts. Stop in either district for delicious food and drinks! McAlester Main Street exists to maintain and improve our historic districts, the heart of our community. Our goals include increasing activity in our districts, increasing profits for our members and increasing sales tax revenue for the community.
Our program is a public-private partnership with the City of McAlester, the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Main Street approach has succeeded in communities throughout the nation.
Main Street's Four Point Approach
Organization
Main Street operates with a board of directors, a paid director, and committees of volunteers. The Organization Committee is responsible for uniting our community behind Main Street through membership and fundraising.
Promotion
The Promotion Committee is responsible for branding our program and its districts and for promoting members through marketing activities, such as cooperative advertising and promotional events.
Design
The Design Committee is responsible for improving our districts' environment through projects like landscape and facade improvements.
Economic Restructuring

- Incremental - Revitalization begins with simple activities and works toward more ambitious projects.
- Self-help - Local leaders must mobilize local resources and talent.

- Identifying and capitalizing on existing assets - Districts must capitalize on the assets that make them unique.
- Quality - Focusing on quality projects over quantity maintains a positive image.
