Middleton Stables
Middleton Equestrian Center, adjacent to Middleton Place, a National Historic Landmark, is an exceptional, full service equestrian facility located only 14 miles from downtown Charleston, SC.
Originally part of Henry Middleton's private estate, it is now home to more than 50 horses on 80 acres of lush pastures shaded by numerous majestic live oak trees. The property has 3 barns totaling 46 stalls, covered lakeside picnic area, 14 pastures and paddocks, 2 dressage rings, a lighted jump arena, and acess to 6,000 acres of trails.
Middleton Stables embraces the rider in all of us by offering a variety of equine activities including trail rides, lessons, social and corporate events, pony parties, and summer camp.
Middleton Equestrian Center has been featured in the Post and Courier, Charleston Magazine, Charleston Home & Garden, MUSC Health Connection, Discover South Carolina, and was listed as one of National Geographic's Top 50 Outdoor Destinations in the United States. Also featured by the Live 5 News program "Perfectly Charleston" as a must do for vistitors and locals.
A guided trail ride is a terrific way to experience the natural beauty of Middleton Place. Explore one of South Carolina's most famous and majestic plantations on horseback and traverse miles of woodlands, riverbanks, and rice fields. Marsh birds, eagles, deer and alligators are some of the wildlife that riders often encounter.
We offer several trail riding opportunities at Middleton Equestrian Center.
MIddleton Place Trail Rides (open year round, closed Christmas Day only)
Our guided one hour tour of Middleton Place leaves daily at 10:00am, 11:30am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. This is a wonderful way to explore MIddleton Place and all of it's history and beauty. No experience is required. $45 per person.

Rice Culture /Nature Ride
You will travel back in time to when "Carolina Gold" was king, exploring abandoned rice fields, riding along the rice dikes and cypress swamps, dismounting on the way to explore the ruins of an old rice mill, and the home-site ruins of the African American slaves who worked the fields. This is an amazing outdoor experience rich in South Carolina history and wildlife. Ride includes hor dourves and beverages in the woods. By reservation only. Please call for booking information. $135.00 per person. Approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. Full lowcountry style meals and picnics are availble for this ride for $165 per person. Romance Ride
This private 2 hour ride will be a memory of a lifetime for you and that special person in your life. Our guide will lead you through the forest lands and around the lakes of Middleton Place enjoying nature at it's finest. This experience includes a private picnic lunch and is the perfect setting for a proposal, anniversary, or any special occassion. Approximately 3 hours. Wine and Champagne are available for an additional fee. Cost is $400 per couple. Please call for reservations and booking information.
