Mitchell, South Dakota-home of the World's Only Corn Palace-is also the home of the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village. Located just off Interstate 90, the Indian Village entices visitors to imagine what it was like to live in a 1,000-year-old former plains village.
Background and History
The Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village is a six-acre site, overlooking the west bank of Lake Mitchell. It holds dual status as a National Register and National Historic Landmark site.

The Indian Village operates under the direction of a talented volunteer board that includes civic, business, and cultural leaders who make unique contributions to the success of the organization.
How We're Funded
The Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village is a nonprofit, 501 (c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible to fullest extent of the law. The Indian Village is primarily supported through membership, sponsorship, admission, gift-shop sales, and contributions from our generous individual and corporate donors. We have also received some federal, state, and private foundation funding. We have several ways that people can make a contribution.
