About Morgan Mill Trout Farm
Flyod Owen was the first in the Owen family to get interested in Rainbow Trout, he built the first farm which was all dirt ponds on a clean mountain stream in 1978. Since this time the Owen family has raised trout in many different locations. In 1985 Dale Owen purchased commercial property and built the Morgan Mill facility. With this property and trout fisherman from all over the world the trout industry took off. Fingerlings reached numbers as high as 5 million per year.
Dale started slowing down in 2004 and turned the restaurant market over to others and let it fall where it may. Still today the Morgan Property due to its location is the most preferred public fishing ponds in Western North Carolina.
With property on the market for sale it is being operated by Dale's brother Alfred Owen. Alfred also has a background of rainbow in his history, he owns 10 acres in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.
His farm is in the small farming community of Balsam Grove. This is how the two names hooked together, Alfred has already built large trout fishing ponds on the beautiful stream of Shoal Creek. This will be the future of trout fishing in Western North Carolina. Many years of experience and the construction of many farms since 1978 has landed on one piece of property in Balsam Grove.
