Museum of Aviation
The Museum of Aviation received an "Honorable Mention" from the Georgia Association of Museums and Galleries (GAMG) for the exhibit EOD: Robins Air Force Base and Beyond. With guidance from museum staff, three seniors from Northside High School in Warner Robins curated the exhibit, which opened in May 2012.
The exhibit engages visitors with a dramatic story, personalized with spotlights on Air Force explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialists who live and work in central Georgia. Features of the exhibit include an 800-pound EOD robot, a bomb suit, uniforms worn by members of the Georgia Air National Guard's 116th Air Control Wing EOD Flight, munitions training aids, and two short videos showing EOD specialists at work.
"This award is a terrific honor for us," said curator Mike Rowland. "It is a tribute to our student curators, the EOD professionals of the Georgia Air National Guard's 116th Air Control Wing, and the museum staff. It took a lot of teamwork and ingenuity to overcome our limited resources but we were able to create a great exhibit."
