Our Mission: The North Port Chorale, Inc. is a non-profit organization of volunteer singers dedicated to performing high quality choral music. We are committed to providing opportunities for participation and growth, fellowship and fun to our members, standards of excellence in our rehearsals and performance. We seek to inspire in our audiences and ourselves a greater love of music and community by providing wholesome musical entertainment and to be an integral and active member in the cultural life of North Port, Florida.

History of the Chorale

Bruce Robinson, the first director and organizer, founded the Chorale on February 27, 1980. The city enabled the 30 members to use Albert Goll Community Center for its rehearsals, and the first concert was on April 26, 1980 to a standing-room-only audience. Most performances were subsequently held in the Trinity Methodist Church from 1981- 1999.

The Chorale became officially organized in 1982 with the election of officers and a growth to 46 members, and a variety of performances including one at the Port Charlotte Cultural Center. Marion and William Pinkow were directors from 1986-1994 and the membership and reputation of the Chorale continued to grow. In 1992-1993, the Chorale collaborated with the North Port Orchestra for several concerts.

Pat Prentzel was named director in 1998, the same year that St. Paul's Presbyterian Church was used as rehearsal location, and where the Chorale also enjoyed the use of a grand piano! In 2001 the Chorale made the North Port Performing Arts Center its permanent home, located at the site of the North Port High School, and membership has grown to over 70 members.

The North Port Chorale is a non-profit 501 (c3) organization and has by-laws and standing rules that are given to each new member. The Executive Board may call special business meetings. Elections and other business of the membership are on the annual agenda. Members have access to the annual agenda (or any regularly scheduled Board meeting agenda) by contacting the Board directly. The nomination committee is responsible for preparing a slate of officers, but members are encouraged to initiate contact with a Board member and indicate their interest. Nominations are also open from the floor at the annual elections.

The North Port Chorale is a partner in the North Port Performing Arts Association that, along with the Orchestra and Concert Band, produces community programs for the Performing Arts Center on the campus of the North Port High School. NPPAA Board or Directors includes the Chorale Director and four members.
