Off Broadway Theatre (OBT)
The Off Broadway Theatre (OBT) is Salt Lake's downtown hot spot for comedy.
Since 1994, we have presented famous comedies, musicals and plays such as: Noises Off, Little Shop of Horrors, See How They Run, The Pirates of Penzance, and more.
Along with these, OBT has been known for our outrageous parodies: Robin Hood: Boyz in the Hood, The Adventures of Sheer-Luck Homes and Snotson, Doctor U, Peta Pun & the Pirates, Forever Dead, The X-Mas Men, The X-Mas Files, not to mention Dracula versus Frankenstein, the Wolfman, Jekyll & Hyde, the Hunchback, Henry Botter, etc...
OBT is also the home of Utah's longest-running and most popular improv comedy show, Laughing Stock.
If you've seen "Whose Line Is It Anyway", you know the basics. The difference is, here there are no TV cameras and tape editing. You see the genius and the foolishness.
Often times, the foolishness is more funny. And, it's what sets Laughing Stock apart from the rest.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Off Broadway Theatre is to enrich the Wasatch Front by inspiring laughter, developing talents, and fostering learning through the creative expression of the theatrical arts. We fulfill this mission by:
• Presenting family-friendly, original parodies, improvisational comedy, and other wholesome entertainment for audiences in our theatre and at local schools, youth organizations, hospitals, etc.;
• Providing opportunities for aspiring playwrights, actors, directors, and stage technicians to learn and develop their skills-opportunities rarely found elsewhere in Utah theaters;
• Teaching acting, speaking, and improvisation classes -important, transferable skills for success and self-esteem-to local youth, both at the theatre and at their schools.
