Kansas MainStreet Got 2011 Award for Excellence, Volunteer Development And Downtown Gardens

The Ottawa Main Street Association promotes a positive image of downtown by preserving our unique historic character, strengthening our district's retail and economic base and emphasizing downtown as the center of community activity through a focused program of organization, design, promotion and business enhancement.

With the assistance of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Ottawa Main Street Association is lighting the way for downtown's rebirth.

About Ottawa Main Street Association

Ottawa Main Street Association completed the heritage sculpture project located on the courthouse lawn, the Former First Ladies of Ottawa located by the Marais Des Cygnes River Bridge, and various other projects that contribute to the beauty of our home town, increase exposure to the arts, and celebrate our unique architectural heritage. This is yet another project that contributes to that goal. Our hope is this will not be the last, but the first of many murals depicting the history of our beautiful town. We are also in the planning stages of painting the utility boxes with pictures that will preserve our history in Ottawa. The boxes and murals will become part of a "walking tour" for the enjoyment and education of Ottawa citizens as well as a destination spot for tourist
