Mission

To promote appreciation and understanding of the natural world, while providing a quality environment for animals and visitors at the Pueblo Zoo.

Company Overview

The Pueblo Zoo is an AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) accredited facility that covers twenty-five acres in the southwest quadrant of Pueblo City Park. It is home to more than 420 animals representing over 120 different species from around the world. Under the direction of the non-profit Pueblo Zoological Society, the Zoo is a place where animals are exhibited in natural settings, where the interdependence of earth's life (plants and animals - including human beings) is made clear for everyone to see, understand, and appreciate.

Around 1900 the City of Pueblo had animals on display in three major parks, including City Park. In the 1920s all zoo animals were moved to the 25 acre site at City Park. Then, in the 1930s the Animal House, Tropical Bird House, Monkey Island, Monkey Mountain, and Bear Pits were built by P.W.A. and W.P.A. as part of F.D.R's work programs.

Open year-round, the Pueblo Zoo is located within City Park in Pueblo, Colorado. Visitors, including those using strollers or wheelchairs, enjoy an easy stroll through beautifully landscaped grounds that lead to Serengeti Safari, North American Grasslands, the Australian Outback, and an Asian Adventure. There is a tropical rain forest to visit and penguins to watch "flying" underwater. A shipwreck journey around the world is available in the Islands of Life building.

Children meet friendly farm animals in the Pioneer Ranch and watch northern river otters swim and frolic underwater. World of Color opened in summer 2009.
