Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum
The Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum is a U.S. museum located on the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It features displays and exhibitions of archaeological and historical artifacts, as well as paintings and other artworks. Originally the University Museum, the museum received its current name in 2001,and opened in its new building on the River Campus in 2007.
The Crisp Museum provides the university and area communities with opportunities to:
- Expand understanding of the fine arts
- Deepen knowledge of contemporary and historic cultures
- Enrich perceptions of the complex and essential relationships between humans and their material cultures
- Promote appreciation of the contributions of diverse peoples, cultures, and historic periods
- Engage in experiential learning and thereby realize increased self-understanding and knowledge
The Crisp Museum serves as a repository for significant historical and cultural objects of regional and national importance. In this capacity the museum house, preserve, exhibit, interpret, augment, and refine its collections of art, historical objects, and archaeological artifacts.
Collections
The Crisp Museum collects in three thematic areas: archaeology, history, and fine art. The museum provides changing exhibitions, didactic displays, and educational programs for the university community and general public. Collections are also available to scholars and students conducting academic research.
