Salato Wildlife Education Center

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

Welcome to the Salato Wildlife Education Center! From the lush, eastern mountains to rolling prairies... from lowland marshes to clear running streams... you'll experience Kentucky's diverse regional ecosystems and the wealth of fish, plants, and animals that make this their home.

Whether you have an hour or the whole day at the KDFWR Headquarters and the Salato Wildlife Education Center, you'll have fun and learn something, too. Plus, you may choose to participate in a variety of scheduled programs, activities, and workshops. So pack a lunch, gather your fishing gear - don't forget the kids and camera - and come visit!

There's a lot to see and do! Inside, get up close to live snakes and giant turtles, climb on board a shocking boat to sample muskellunge, and wonder at a working bee hive! Outside, follow our paved, accessible trails to see bobcats, bison, elk, and more in large, natural habitats. Climb into a bear culvert trap, help a quail chick hide from hungry predators, spot for waterfowl at the Dragonfly Marsh, go fishing in one of two well-stocked lakes, or take a day hike on one of our hiking trails. There's something here for everyone, and we're growing!
