Sam Houston Memorial Museum
We are located on the corner of Sam Houston Avenue and 19th Street in Huntsville, TX.
Sam Houston's Woodland home, built in 1847. The Houston family lived here until 1859, when Sam ran for the Governor of Texas and won. Four of the eight children were born in this house, now a National Historic Landmark.
The Steamboat House was built in 1858 by Dr. Rufus Bailey as a wedding present for his son. Dr. Bailey felt the Texas architecture exhibited a "deficiency in architectural taste"
