Our mission is to entertain, inspire, and educate patrons of all ages through musical performances of high artistic merit.

Our vision

The South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will be a musical leader widely recognized for the quality of its music performances and programs, its significant contributions to the civic and cultural life of the community, the impact of its role in education, and its development of a broad and diverse audience.

History

Founded in 1956 as one of the first orchestras in Arkansas, the South Arkansas Symphony is a 70 member professional orchestra serving the South Arkansas region. Today, the orchestra is oldest, longest standing in the state. With a budget of $500,000, the orchestra presents a mains series of seven to twelve events and performs throughout the South Arkansas region. In addition, all performances are broadcast on Red River Radio to four states and occasionally on the PBS station AETN throughout Arkansas.

Currently, Kermit Poling is fulfilling his 18th year as conductor with Scott Watkins serving as Executive Director. The South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra is the largest performing arts organization in South Arkansas.
