Convention Center History

If not for the mighty Mississippi, St. Cloud might not be the city it is today. Our community was built on the river as a center for transportation and recreation. It is because of this connection to a waterway that has changed so many fortunes and is held in such high regard, that the convention center is the River's Edge.

We are located on the river's edge in scenic, energetic downtown. It's quite literally the place where St. Cloud was born, and it is from here that we've grown.

The original and then-named St. Cloud Civic Center was built in 1988 at a cost of $10.9 million. It hosted a variety of trade shows, meetings, weddings, and conferences, plus thousands of other consumer, sports, local, and regional events. The new $22 million expansion was funded by the St. Cloud food and beverage tax. It nearly doubled the size of the building, enhanced all spaces, and improved parking options.

Today, the River's Edge Convention Center includes 180,000 square feet of space, 19 meeting rooms, 60,000 square feet of continuous exhibit space and a 16,000 square foot ballroom.
