St. James Parish Church
St. James Parish is an active, working church and its congregation plays a vital role in community life. There are members of the congregation who attend St. James because their families have attended for generations and there are those, new to Wilmington, who attend St. James because it is welcoming and somehow familiar. Members of the congregation come to this downtown parish from their homes in the county, the beach, the suburbs, from downstream and upstream, the historic district and the marinas.
Part of our heritage as Episcopalians is that our lives are centered around worship which engages the energies of the entire congregation rather than a performance by the clergy. Therefore, a full and deliberate participation by everyone is encouraged by singing hymns, psalms, and canticles, in reciting prayers with a serious devotion to a unity of worship which is a common experience focused in the book of Common Prayer.
