Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts
On October 7, 1996, the Weill Center Foundation, Inc, a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation, was established and became the single significant driving force in the preservation and restoration of the Sheboygan Theater.
With a $100,000 gift from community philanthropist Walter Brand, the Foundation was able to acquire the Sheboygan Theater property in December, 1996 for $50,000 - well below the assessed value. The remaining gifted funds defrayed the cost of repairing the theater's roof. The Foundation spent the next years restoring and renovating the historic theater.
With the financial contributions of generous community supporters and through ongoing fundraising initiatives, the theater now includes the addition of an expanded stage, a new ticket office, six new restrooms and the installation of new, wider seats for a seating capacity of 1,153.The development of the Weill Center continues with future construction phases that will include administrative offices and a grand lobby reception area.
