Stephenville Historical House Museum

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

Celebrating our history. Serving our community.

Nestled on 3 acres adjacent to the Bosque River, the Stephenville Historical House Museum consists of 12 nineteenth century structures furnished with period furniture and artifacts. Buildings include several log cabins chinked with mud just like the ol' days, a ranch house owned by John Tarleton (founder of Tarleton State University), a rock cottage, a two-story Victorian house, a chapel, and a school house. There's even a two-hole outhouse!

Weddings and other events can be held in the Chapel on the Bosque or on the museum grounds, and the Center Grove Schoolhouse is available for small receptions and meetings.

The museum hosts four events annually: By Gone Days on the Bosque, Native & Heirloom Plant Fair, Camp Pioneer, and the Museum Motorcycle Run.

The museum gift shop is the perfect place to pick up souvenirs or gifts. Ghost stories, crimes, and scandals can be found in books written by local authors. Stephenville commemorative posters, coloring books by a local artist, and many other treasures are waiting to be discovered.

The beautiful museum grounds, with flower gardens maintained by volunteers, are a popular backdrop for family photos.

The Museum depends almost entirely on donations for the maintenance of our historical structures, preservation of artifacts, and development of new exhibits. Help keep our history alive by making a donation!a
