Sturgis District Library
The Sturgis District Library was formed in May of 2006 after the City of Sturgis, Fawn River, Sherman, and Sturgis Townships approved a district library agreement. A successful millage campaign in August 2006 resulted in 1.1 mils being passed through 2015.
The service area population is 18,500.
A District Library, under state law, is two or more municipalities joining in partnership to provide library service in a specific geographical area. Authority is given under The District Library Establishment Act, 1989 PA 24. An independent board of directors with taxing authority governs district libraries.
