The Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Center
A History of Success
Blacksburg has always been a community that places emphasis on the preservation and reuse of historic buildings. Over the past decade major steps have been taken to expand upon the town's rich history and cultural heritage by bringing active use and programming to many of these spaces. The Town owns a number of historic properties, many of which have been renovated and either used for municipal services or leased to other entities. The following are examples of those success stories.
Vision
The Alexander Black House restoration is a $3 million project that will give back to our community for generations to come.
Collectively the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation and the Town of Blacksburg have committed over $2 million to the project to date.
Today, we ask you to help us reach the very achievable goal of $750,000 in community contributions.
There are a number of naming opportunities available and your donation is tax deductible.
Be a Part of the Journey
The journey has been long, but while the Alexander Black House has rested a few years on a grassy knoll on Draper Road, a clear and compelling vision for its future has been crafted. Once restored, the magnificent Queen Anne Victorian will be the permanent home of the Alexander Black House and Cultural Center. A small section of the home will be dedicated to the memory and life of Alexander Black, while the remaining space will be a vibrant and engaging community center. Visitors will enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and elegant surroundings of this historic venue; thought provoking exhibitions of art and history; meeting and special event accommodations; lovely gardens; and cultural heritage programs for all ages and interests.
