Our Mission

At The Fieldhouse, we consider it our mission to enhance the quality of human life through physical fitness, sports and an overall healthy lifestyle. To this end, we will forever strive to provide quality facilities, programming, and professional instruction and to instill in those we serve an understanding of the value of physical fitness and sports to their lives.

"Where you don't have to be the best, just the best YOU want to be!"

About The Fieldhouse Foundation

The Fieldhouse Foundation was formed in 2008 in an effort to provide fitness and recreation to the underserved in our community. The Foundation was formed out of a concern for the growing issue of childhood obesity and a need to provide physical activities for special populations unable to exercise due to physical or financial limitations. Thanks to the generosity of this community the foundation is currently serving over thirty five families who come to The Fieldhouse regularly to exercise and participate in programming.

The Fieldhouse Foundation has made tremendous strides in its three years of existence but, as with all foundations, we have hopes for even more. The Field of Dreams project, completed in the summer of 2010, was the installation of two new turf surfaces that are conducive to adaptive equipment allowing many more the opportunity to play soccer, baseball and football. Our fields were named in honor of the two young athletes who inspire us, Seth Dille and Ben Trebb. For their stories, see the Field of Dreams Project.

The Foundation recently purchased a chair lift for the pool, as well as exercise rings which extend from the ceiling allowing persons with limited leg use the ability to get in a complete body work out. For many of the people we serve with disabilities the pool, because of its buoyancy and warm temperature, provides the safest and best environment to exercise. Our hope is to soon be able to purchase an aqua treadmill which would be a great cardio workout for some who cannot move themselves freely in the water and are even less mobile on land.

To date The Foundation has purchased three specialized bikes which you will see our Foundation Children riding around the track. We call it exercise and therapy, they will tell you it is just for fun! And honestly that is our goal, to make exercise fun, and possible, for as many as we can. While we would love to be able to provide therapist, kinesiotherapist and more specialized equipment to meet the needs of these amazing children; at least for now, we may have to be content with making The Fieldhouse more user friendly to those with physical limitations.

For many we serve this seems to be more than enough to put a smile on their face. All many of our children want is an opportunity to have fun and play like other children. In many cases for us it has amounted to nothing more than providing them the space, making a few minor adjustments to equipment, giving them a little bit of encouragement and a patient friend to play with. All one young man needed, who wanted to continue to play football as he went through radiation treatments, was a protective device to protect the compromised area so he was safe to enjoy the sport he loved. For another sixteen year old girl, who wanted to join her family on a bike ride, it was a matter of putting some training wheels on her bike and letting her practice on our rubberized track with a buddy running beside her until she was confident. For others we have made a few minor adjustments to walkers to allow them to move more freely so they could enjoy tennis or soccer with their family. Along with the rest of our community, we have been inspired by an 8 year old boy who was running and kicking a ball one week after being fitted for his prosthetic leg because he wasn't about to give up until he got it! The Fieldhouse would like to take this opportunity to publically thank all the community businesses and individuals who have financially supported the Fieldhouse Foundation effort over these past three years through their donations and bartering of services. A special thanks going out to Dr. Raul Hernandez who helped us get started and for his continual support.
